The Leon Polk Smith Foundation is pleased to announce that Both Sides of the Line: Carmen Herrera & Leon Polk Smith continues its national tour at the Addison Gallery of American Art at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, on view February 21 through July 31, 2026.

Organized by the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the exhibition brings together more than 45 works — paintings, works on paper, and three-dimensional objects — to examine the creative dialogue between two pioneers of geometric abstraction who were also neighbors and lifelong friends. The exhibition considers how Herrera’s crisp lines and bold fields of color intersect with and diverge from Smith’s expansive curves and sweeping forms, and reflects on how both artists navigated a mid-century art world that too often overlooked their contributions.

Support for the exhibition catalogue and programming is provided by Tony Bechara and the Leon Polk Smith Foundation.

Both Sides of the Line is on view on Level 2, Galleries 206–209. Admission to the Addison Gallery is free and open to the public.
